Solid Wall Insulation

Most relatively Modern Buildings are built with cavity walls which are either inbuilt with insulation or can have it retrofitted. However, much of the existing UK Building stock built prior to the 1960s was built with solid walls, which makes it much harder to insulate.

Thermal Efficiency

Solid walls typically have a U value of 2.1.

Insulation systems are available for insulating solid walls both internally and externally.

An insulated solid wall will have a U value in the region of 0.3. This will therefore be an improvement in excess of 80%.

A U value is an expression of thermal efficiency of any given building surface.

Insulation systems are available for insulating solid walls both internally and externally.

Green Deal

It is expected that solid wall insulation will be one of the approved carbon reducing measures available in the Green Deal, which is due to commence in October 2012.
